The analysis of human motion is called Biomechanics and Podiatrists can perform clinical biomechanical evaluation of the lower limb if indicated to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic foot pathology. Biomechanical Assessments involves the observation and measurement of the anatomy and function of the foot and lower limbs during gait, when standing and through passive and active movements of joints and muscles. With this information a tailored treatment regime can be recommended to help a patients' symptoms. Treatment may involve footwear recommendations or modifications, Foot Orthotics, stretching and strengthening regimes, balance exercises, physical therapies and additional referrals for x-ray/ultrasound.
