Bunions otherwise known as hallux valgus is deformity of the big toe joint but often involves other joints within the foot. Occasionally a fluid filled sac called a bursa or corns and callousities may also develop over the area.

The cause of bunions is not clear in many cases there maybe a genetic link or related to arthritis however the deformity maybe painful and progressive causing walking problems and deformity with the lesser digits.

Our Podiatrists can assess bunion deformities and can offer treatment options to help ease your symptoms which may include footwear advice, footwear fitting, padding and foot orthotics. However these interventions will not cure bunions, surgery through a Podiatry surgeon or Orthopeadic surgeon maybe the only option if pain in bunions persists.
